The Glen Acres Leadership

Glen Acres Church is blessed with caring leaders. They work well together and help in keeping the closeness of the congregation. Most of the leaders are not paid. One of the elders is paid full-time and the evangelist and youth minister are currently paid part-time, though they do almost a full-time job. Others have regular jobs, but they still devote their lives to the work of the church.

Elders: Men who oversee the various ministries of the church and the spiritual growth of the members. Evangelist: Deals mainly with outreach for the church, trying to increase the church's membership. Deacons: Men, with Christian families, who work with the elders to help prevent any problems or conflicts in the church; they also oversee the upkeep of the church building and grounds. Youth Minister: Oversees youth programs and is especially interested in the spiritual lives of the youth of the church; several youth counselors work with him and share responsibilities.

Ralph Johnson

Elder and Acting Minister

Ralph founded what is now Glen Acres Church of Christ in 1954. He has been a Christian since 1944 and says that "Everyday, in every way, I am richly blessed." The aspect of Glen Acres most dear to him is the fact that the church has a rock-solid Biblical foundation and perspective. Ralph sees the Glen Acres congregation doubling within the next 5 years, with three full-time leaders and a paid secretary. Through this Web site, Ralph wants Biblical teachings to be presented both locally and universally. "If you're looking for answers to the really important questions, try locking on to the Bible -- God's message to man." You can E-mail Ralph at ralph@glenacres.org

Darrell Chase, Sr.

Elder

Darrell, Sr. has been a Christian for 36 years and he has been in church leadership almost ever since he started attending Glen Acres in 1966. He appreciates the family relationship of the Glen Acres congregation and the members' willingness to use their talents for the Lord. His 5-year goals for the church include a new church building, greater financial support for missionary work, 120 baptisms each year, and more full-time leaders (2 elders, an evangelist, a secretary, and a youth evangelist). Darrell wants this Web site to be a new way of spreading God's Word and His will. Darrell is thankful that God has blessed the church with good health and that he has recently been able to witness to his family with the hope of some of them surrendering their lives to Christ. E-mail him at dchasesr@glenacres.org

Don Fleming

Evangelist

Don has been a Christian for 28 years and started attending Glen Acres in 1970. In 1978, Don became the minister of Kent Hill Church of Christ and acted in that position until 1990. He has been the Evangelist at Glen Acres for 5 years now. The thing the Don loves about Glen Acres is the loving, genuine people who are committed to God's work and who are willing to do teamwork. He also enjoys the pot-lucks at the church. Don sees the church growing in size, in membership, and in the spiritual lives of the members in the coming years ("This we will do if the Lord permits.") Of course, Don also wants to see the church have pot-lucks more frequently. He sees this Web site as an evangelistic tool that should give information to those looking for a church, those who have questions about doctrines, and those who want to meet some of the members of God's family . Don says: "To err is human, but to really louse it up, it takes a computer." You can E-mail Don at donfleming@glenacres.org

Travis Rowden

Deacon

I didn't come to know Jesus until just out of highschool. In fourth grade a friend of mine would, when I couldn't think of an excuse, bring me to church with him. My family moved the following year, and I didn't meet up with that friend again until highschool. I had thought I'd learned a lot in that period of time from my science teachers and became an evolutionist. Although we had a difference of opinion as to where we originated, we became good friends again.

We debated often, and although I always felt that I had the upper hand with the so-called facts of evolution on my side, it was he who truly had the upper hand on this side. Instead of debating to merely win the argument, as I was, he was debating to save my soul. At the age of nineteen I gave my life to God.

Unlike science or philosophy, Christianity is a way of life. There's always room for growth, and it's this growth that keeps us from being lukewarm Christians. A few areas I think it's especially important to excel in are (Matt 4:19) witnessing, (John 17:22) unity, and the glue that holds us all together (Matt 22:37 - 39) love for our God and each other.

Jeff Hoffelner

Deacon

According to his wife Anna, Jeff has been attending Glen Acres since 1994, he has a bad memory and since it is not in his Palm Pilot he couldn't tell you. He was raised in a Christian family and first became a Christian at age 13.

His goal as a deacon is to do as much as he can to help out the Elders, so they can devote themselves to teaching and prayer. (Acts 6:2 - 4)

His goal as a Christian is to continually grow and learn to love people better.

Dan France

Deacon

Darrell Chase, Jr.

Youth Minister

Darrell, Jr. has been attending Glen Acres since 1966 and has been a Christian since the young age of 11. He has been in youth ministry since 1984. Darrell is glad with how the leadership sees the youth as the church of today, not just the church of the future. Glen Acres has a great youth program and offers a variety of activities to share with the youth. Darrell has visions of full time work with the youth at Glen Acres. He wants to see a multi-purpose building be added for our growing youth group's meetings and activities. Lastly, he is working on an increased continuity between the whole children and youth programs.

Darrell hopes this Web site will be used as a resource for youth, and he wants to see the youth use those resources to build their relationship with Christ. God has blessed Darrell and his wife, Lucrecia, with a daughter, Raquel Mata (Rocky), and they are very proud of her and are enjoying watching her grow up and learn about the Lord from them. Check out Darrell's home page at http://mywebpages.comcast.net/dchasejr or E-mail him at dchasejr@glenacres.org.

In Loving Memory Of

Chuck Mitchell

Chuck served in the leadership since approximately 1979, up until he went to be with the Lord in November of 2007, He most recently as a Elder.  Among the young children at Glen Acres, Chuck was better known as "Candyman" because he always had candy for them.  He was loved by all, and he will be deeply missed.  The links below are pictures of messages left by people in the congregation about him.
